“Don’t freak yourself out by what other people have. They don’t have what you’ve got.” — Simon Sinek
Your neighbor just got a new car. Your best friend just got a new job. And you? You’re driving the same car you’ve had for the past five years, working at the same job you’ve had for the past ten years. It’s easy, in such circumstances, to wonder where and when you might have gone wrong. Sure, it’s natural to feel jealous, but you know what? It’s also pointless: Your car is reliable, and your job pays well. You have nothing to envy.
Though some may try to convince you otherwise, life is not a zero-sum game. Another person “winning” in life does not necessarily mean you’re “losing,” unless you’re literally playing a game against them. You have too much to offer the world to waste your time comparing yourself unfavorably with others. As Simon Sinek says, “Don’t freak yourself out by what other people have. They don’t have what you’ve got.”
No one else has your unique skills, talent, or passion. Do they have your ideas, your spark? Your potential? No. Surely all of the energy you might spend on freaking yourself out over what other people have could be better spent using what you already have to make an impact, right? Absolutely. So, don’t worry about what others have. Be grateful for what you got, and then get out there and put it to good use!
